Simone Ashwini Pillai known as Simone Ashley was born on 30 March 1995 in  Camberley, Surrey, to Indian Tamil parents Latha and Gunasekharan Pillai. She has an older brother. Ashley has said that even though she grew up in a family of smart people, she was always more interested in the arts.
