Kara Scannell is a popular American journalist currently working as a CNN correspondent based in New York covering law, crime, and business investigations. She joined CNN in 2017 in its Washington, D.C. bureau as a member of the team covering the special counsel’s investigation into the 2016 presidential election.

Before joining CNN, Kara worked for nearly a dozen years at the Wall Street Journal. She also reported for the Financial Times where she served as an investigative correspondent and most recently its US senior finance correspondent. In her years at the FT Scannell broke stories about tax evasion schemes, cyber security breaches as well as sweeping crackdowns into insider trading.
