Roy Allen-Theodore Williams, more known as Roy Williams, is a retired American men’s collegiate basketball coach. The renowned coach served as the men’s head coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels for 18 seasons and Kansas Jayhawks for 15 seasons.
Sadly for his fans, Williams’ career as a basketball coach came to an end when he announced his retirement in 2021. The Basketball Hall of Fame coach retired after 33 years as a head coach with a total of 903 wins.
Now that the legendary coach has retired, Williams probably spends most of his time with his family. So, today, we will be seeking to know more about Roy Williams’ wife, Wanda Williams.
Roy Williams’ Wife Graduated In The Same Year As Him
Wanda Williams, whose birth name is Wanda Jones, is the daughter of the late Frederick Bascom Jones and Cleo Garner Jones. Her father was in the Army Air Corps where he served as an airplane mechanic in the Pacific Theatre during the second world war.
Roy Williams’ wife grew up in the same city as he did, Asheville. In fact, they even attended the same high school and college. The seemingly fated couple attended T.C. Roberson High School and The University of North Carolina.
There is no information about the duo’s interaction when they were in high school. We could not say for sure if the pair had been close to each other ever since their teenage years.
However, we can indeed say that the duo graduated from UNC in the same year, 1972. The following year, in 1973, Williams and Wanda got married and have been together ever since. The husband-wife duo then welcomed two children together.

Wanda and Roy Williams’ Children
Roy Williams’ wife gave birth to his two children, as mentioned above. The oldest of the children is a son named Scott Williams and the youngest is a daughter named Kimberly Williams. Both of the couple’s kids followed them to attend The University of North Carolina.
Wanda and Roy’s eldest and only son also played basketball at UNC for three years, just like Roy did. Scott graduated college with a Bachelor’s degree in business. He is married to Katie Wolford and has two sons, Aiden Williams and Court Williams. Roy and Wanda’s child currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his family.
As for the daughter of the two, Kimberly graduated from UNC with a Bachelor’s degree in English. She was a member of the Tar Heels dance team at Chapel Hill and later went to teach dance at Jamie Masters School of Dance. The daughter of the former coach now owns a dance studio called The Dance Spot in Huntersville.
Much like her brother, Kimberly is also happily married. Moreover, she has two children, Kayson Newlin and Kenzie Newlin, with her husband, Kurt Newlin.
It seems the children of the couple want to keep their personal lives private, despite Roy Williams’ fame and want to stay out of the spotlight.
